Bach’s St Matthew Passion is indisputably one of the highlights among vocal music. With a streamlined choir and double soloist cast, this recording is based on the historical guidelines of the composer himself. With the Ensemble Frauenkirche Dresden, playing historically informed on modern instruments, the vocalists give a cohesive and convincing interpretation of Bach’s longest and most comprehensive work.
This recording is a multi-day production around the annual 13 February memorial concert in Dresden's Frauenkirche - a musical summit shortly before the start of the pandemic in spring 2020.
