Panajotis Iconomou began his vocal training at the Tölzer Knabenchor. With Nikolaus Harnoncourt he recorded cantatas from Bach and sang the alto solos in the St John Passion and St Matthew Passion at the Styriarte in Graz in 1985. With Andrew Parrot he recorded the B-Minor Mass. The same year he performed under Sergiu Celibidache at the inauguration of the Münchner Philharmonie. After studying in London he performed as a bass-baritone with Sir Colin Davis, Gustav Leonhardt, Sir Edward Downes and Raffael Frübeck de Burgos. In the operatic field his roles have included Sarastro from the Magic Flute, Mozart’s Figaro and Leporello, Puccinis Colline, Verdis Sparafucile and Gounods Mephistopheles. Iconomou has performed as a guest artist at the opera houses in Glasgow, London, Cologne, Amsterdam as well as the San Carlo of Naples, Carlo Felice in Genova, Teatro Regio of Turin and the Macerata Festival directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi.
