Michael Lochner
Michael Lochner was born in 1952 in Upper Franconia in Germany. He studied piano, organ and music education at the Nuremberg Conservatory, where his teachers included Rudolf Zartner and Gottfried Müller. He then went on to study sacred music under Hedwig Bilgram and Diethard Hellmann at the Academy of Music in Munich, graduating with an A-grade degree in sacred music.
After graduation, Michael Lochner worked as a cantor in Nuremberg, Mittenwald, Bad Kissingen and then at St. Luke’s Church in Munich and in 1984 was appointed Director of Church Music in recognition of his extensive work in this field.
He has been Musical Director of the Protestant Church in Bavaria since 1991 and is a part-time teacher at the Academy of Music and Drama in Munich. Besides giving regular recitals and concerts both as an organist and as a conductor, he has also made a name for himself as the author of several works on various aspects of church music.
