Marienkantor Michael D. Müller
Michael D. Müller, cantor of St Mary’s at Lübeck, studied at the Musikhochschulen at Würzburg and Lübeck. He received his pianistic education from Michael Schlüter at Würzburg and Reinhard Brede in Lübeck, where he also received trombone tuition from Prof. Eberhard Wetz. Prof. Jörg Straube was his initial teacher in choral direction before Müller continued his choral education in Lübeck with Prof. Matthias Janz, and with Prof. Gerd Müller-Lorenz with whom Müller studied choral direction as a main subject. In 2007, he was able to work with the male voices of the choir of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk at a master class on the direction of men’s choirs held by Robin Gritton. Müller held an assistant post for choral direction with his teacher Prof. Gerd Müller-Lorenz at the Musikhochschule Lübeck from 1997 until the completion of his first state diploma in 1999. As the newly appointed cantor of St Mary’s at Lübeck, he took on the direction of the Lübecker Knabenkantorei in 1999 – and completed his second state diploma alongside this engagement. Michael D. Müller is responsible for the artistic and organisational aspects of the choir. In May 2010, as the conductor of the Lübecker Knabenkantorei he was awarded a second prize for the direction of the best participating boys choir at the eighth edition of the Deutscher Chorwettbewerb which was held in Dortmund and hosted by the Deutscher Musikrat.
