Karl Rathgeber
Karl Rathgeber, born in 1950, studied music at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt am Main. After studying school music, church music and conducting with Helmuth Rilling and Jiri Starek, among others, he took master classes with Martin Behrmann, Eric Ericson and Volker Hempfling.His musical career began in the deanery of Dreieich near Frankfurt am Main, whence he proceeded to the post of music school principal in Lüneburg. After lecturing at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen and holding the post of Stiftsmusikdirektor in Tübingen, he was appointed director of what was then the Fachakademie für evangelische Kirchenmusik in Bayreuth in 1994 and in August 2000 off ered the post of Professor of Conducting at the newly founded Hochschule für evangelische Kirchenmusik in that city. As the college’s founding rector – and now its permanent rector – he naturally had a formative role to play in its development. Karl Rathgeber has been Artistic Director of the Regerchor in Braunschweig since 1999 and is on the teaching staff and advisory board of the Internationale Arbeitskreis für Musik in Kassel.
