Matthias Rexroth

Matthias Rexroth
Matthias Rexroth became the only countertenor to win two of the most coveted vocal competitions: the 37th Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona and the 19th Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition in Vienna. A native of the city of Nuremberg, he studied at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe and with the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and later refined his work with famous mezzosoprano Marylin Horne and with Eytan Pessen. On the opera stage he has come to great international acclaim with his renditions of Handel’s heros in Admeto at the Händel-Festspiele Halle and Giulio Cesare in Oslo as well as with his performances in Telemann’s “Der geduldige Sokrates” under René Jacobs at the Innsbrucker Festwochen and in the Musikhalle Hamburg. As a concert singer he is equally sought after for which his appearences in Bach’s b-minor Mass with Leipzig’s Gewandhausorchester and “Carmina Burana” under Riccardo Muti in Vienna’s Musikverein give as much proof as his frequent collaboration with conductors Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Fabio Luisi and Helmuth Rilling and the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Bachakademie Stuttgart and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.
