Bernd Schwarze
Bernd Schwarze was born in Lübeck in 1961. He studied Protestant theology in Hamburg. Following his studies, Schwarze held an assistant post at the Institut für Praktische Theologie at the University of Hamburg, and at the same was engaged as a tutor in preaching and liturgy. His research concentrates on the religious phenomena of today’s media culture; he graduated as doctor of theology in 1996 with a dissertation on the religion of rock and pop music.He was a curate at Timmendorfer Strand, and has been pastor at Lübeck since 1998 where Schwarze ran various projects at the town’s churches of St Mary and St Peter. Since 2012, he has held a full-time parish position at St Peter, church of Culture and of the University, where he is the artistic and organisational manager.Pastor Dr. Bernd Schwarze hosted a large number of experimental and inspirational services and events at Lübeck. Since 2001, he has written and read a new story at the Knabenkantorei’s Christmas service each year. He is an active musician, actor, and writer, teaches theology at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, and works on many of the parish’s projects through various committees. He engages in an active dialogue between the arts, religion, and academia.
