Sjaella
Sjaella is Scandinavian and originally means soul. The young ladies that form the Leipzig vocal sextet give their souls a voice: joint singing. Since 2005, when the ten to thirteen year old girls still performed as the Chickpeas, the ensemble has enthralled its listeners with crystal-clear acappella singing across all repertoires and genres. Many concerts throughout Germany, highly acclaimed by audiences and press alike, as well as awards at national and international competitions, such as the third prize at the international a-cappella competition Leipzig in 2009, the first prize at the A-cappella-Bundescontest 2010, and – most recently – the Ward Swingle Award in the ‘ classic’ category at the international a-cappella competition ‘vokal. total’ in Graz (Austria), document Sjaella’s excellent artistic quality. Already, the ensemble has appeared on numerous radio and television shows. Their debut CD was released in spring 2011 with the title Sjaella.
