Vienna Vocal Consort

The Vienna Vocal Consort is one of the most renowned vocal groups for Early Music in Austria. It was founded in 2001 by Vijay Upadhyaya at the famous Church of St. Charles (Karlskirche) in Vienna. The ensemble is unique in many ways. Apart from their characteristic sound as a group the five members provide most unusual biographies: Elke Pürgstaller (Soprano) is also an Italian teacher, Sonja Napetschnig (Alto) a Marine Biologist, Martin Jan Stepanek (Tenor) a technology journalist, Michael Stelzhammer (Bariton) a landscape architect and Christoph Chlastak (Basso) an architect.
