Jermaine Sprosse
Jermaine Sprosse began his musical career as a chorister. He later studied harpsichord and Hammerklavier with Mitzi Meyerson and Leo van Doeselaar in Berlin, as well as with Christine Schornsheim and Stefano Demicheli. Between 2011 and 2013, he studied harpsichord, improvisation, and fortepiano with Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, Rudolf Lutz, and Edoardo Torbianelli at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, graduating with distinction. He was awarded scholarships by the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and the Swiss state. Since 2013, he has continued his studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, now focussing on instrumental teaching; he also teaches repetiteurship at the Basel institution. Sprosse has been much-in-demand as a continuo player for many years, and has performed with the Lautten Compagney, the Ensemble Oriol, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, and others. He regularly performs as a soloist: at the harpsichord, the clavichord, and the early fortepiano. In 2007, he was awarded first prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Musica Antica at Genoa, and in the following years performed at many festivals such as the Emiglia-Romagna Festival, the Thüringer Bachwochen, and the Skalholt-Festival in Iceland. In 2012, he appeared as a soloist and improviser at the Davos Festival – young artists in concert – and was awarded a second prize in the soloist category at the international competition ‘t.i.m’ at Paris.
