Renate Steinmann
After having completed her studies of the violin with Nora Chastain and of the viola with Wendy Enderle at the Musikhochschule Winterthur Zurich, Renate Steinmann complemented her education with studies of the Baroque and Classical repertoires with Elisabeth Wallfisch. Since 2006, Steinmann has been the leader of the Zürcher Barockorchester. She has also been the leader of the Bach Stiftung St Gallen, directed by Rudolf Lutz, since the ensemble’s foundation. In 2012, Steinmann recorded the St Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach with the Bach Stiftung. This production was followed by recordings with John Holloway for ECM in 2013. In addition to her diverse range of concert performances, she teaches violin, viola, and chamber music at the Kantonsschule Wettingen, as well as Baroque violin at the Werkstatt für Alte Musik in Zurich.
