From a German-Canadian background, saxophonist Claudia Tesorino tours across the globe, for example following invitations by the Goethe-Institut or the German and Canadian embassies in Europe, North-America, Vietnam, and India.
As freelance saxophonist, she has performed with numerous ensembles and orchestras such as the Junge Süddeutsche Philharmonie, the Süddeutsches Saxophon-Kammerorchester (CD released with Orgon), the NotaBu-Ensemble Düsseldorf, the Bochumer Symphoniker, the Bayer-Philharmoniker Leverkusen, the Raschèr Saxophone Orchestra (CD released with the BIS label), the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg, the Bergische Symphoniker, the Musicians of the World Symphony Orchestra Montréal, the Adirondack Wind Ensemble, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Neubrandenburger Sinfoniker, and several Big Bands.
Between 1998 and 2001 she gave several concerts across Germany, in Montréal, Florence, and New York City as baritone saxophonist of the Tetraphonics Quartet. Today, Claudia Tesorino performs mainly in duos with piano or organ. Her duo-partners include the Berlin-based organist Armin Thalheim, the Roman organist and professor at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia Alessandro Licata, as well as the Berlin-based pianist Ulrich Paetzholdt. Her repertoire ranges from Baroque arrangements and contemporary compositions to jazz and free improvisation. As a soloist and chamber musician, she has given premiere performances of numerous works by Harald Genzmer, Larry T. Bell, Günter Becker, Bernhard Rands, Derek Healey, Ruth Watson-Henderson, and Mathieu Lussier. Several of her concerts have been broadcast by various radio and TV stations: North Country Public Radio, CJNT Montréal, Phoenix, the Hessischer, Bayerischer, Westdeutscher, and Saarländischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandradio Kultur, and Deutschlandfunk.
She can be heard as a soloist on the disc ‘Secrets of Music’, which was recorded and performed at Altenberg cathedral, accompanied by organist Rolf Müller. Further CDs include a recording of works by the composer M. Lussier on ‘Passages’ (Atma) and improvisations with Duonità and percussion/ live electronics on ‘Hotspot’ (Shaa music).
Born in Freiburg in Breisgau, Claudia Tesorino spent ten years in the Canadian city of Montréal, as well as living in Rome, Bordeaux, and Ohio as part of her studies. A multilingual globetrotter, she has lived in Berlin since 2011. There, she is much in demand as a saxophone teacher and directs the saxophone ensemble Saxonoras, which she founded in 2012.
She studied classical saxophone at the Musikhochschule Würzburg, the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt, the Conservatoire de Musique in Bordeaux, and at the Bowling Green State University in Ohio; moreover, she studied jazz saxophone at the Bowling Green State University and Concordia University in Montréal (Canada). She has held scholarships from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Berlin senate.
