Vinícius Perez
Vinícius Perez was born in Rio de Janeiro and began his musical studies at the early age of six, playing the classical guitar. After finishing his guitar studies, he decided to focus on early European plucked string instruments, with particular emphasis on the lute. After studying historical sources and specific lute literature (from the early sixteenth until the late eighteenth century), he attended the prestigious Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in the class of Hopkinson Smith, one of the world’s leading authorities in historical plucked string instruments. Vinícius Perez performs both as a soloist and as a continuo player, for example with the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden, the Konzert Theater Bern, Renate Steinmann (Zürcher Barockorchester), and the Bach Collegium (Freiburg). His solo recording debut The Galant Lute results from his desire to make it possible for modern audiences to experience the charming, galant and colorful sound of the lute through an original and previously unheard repertoire.
