Jost Salm

Jost Salm was born in Lübeck in 1962 and started his musical training as a singer in the Lübecker Knabenkantorei an St. Marien. He went on to study music teaching and singing at the Musikhochschule Lübeck (University of Music) and at the Folkwang Hochschule (University of the Arts) in Essen. In 1992, Salm became a vocal coach and assistant choir director for the concert choir of the Tölzer Knabenchor. Salm has collaborated with Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, James Levine, Riccardo Muti and Zubin Mehta and others at leading international opera and concert houses in the USA, Japan, Israel and throughout Europe, including the Scala in Milan, the Hamburgische Staatsoper, the Berlin opera houses, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Salzburger Festspiele. In 2006, he was appointed as the director of the boys’ choir department at the Chorakademie. Within only a short period of time, Jost Salm restructured the boys’ choir according to his own ideas in order to facilitate professional and childoriented work.
