Claudia Barainsky
A Berliner by birth, Claudia Barainsky studied singing with Ingrid Figur, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Aribert Reimann. She has performed regularly at music festivals such as the Berlin Festwochen, the Schubertiade in Feldkirch, the Salzburg Festival and the Biennale in Venice.
She is renowned for her versatile approach to both classical and contemporary music. Often engaged by the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Philharmonia and the German Symphony Orchestra, Claudia Barainsky has worked with conductors such as Michael Gielen, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Giuseppe Sinopoli.
She made her opera debut in 1993 in the role of Konstanze at the Stadttheater in Bern, going on to sing Lulu in 1994. Thereafter, she accepted the title role of Melusine in Aribert Reimann's opera of the same name at the Semperoper in Dresden. In the spring of 1997, Claudia Barainsky debuted in the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, as well as singing Blonde in Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail at the State Opera in Hamburg.
Since December 1997, she has appeared as Queen of the Night in Mozart's Zauberflöte at the Württemberg State Theatre in Stuttgart, and made her debut at Bayreuth (summer 1998). Spring 2000 saw Claudia Barainsky give her first performance in New York (Carnegie Hall) to considerable critical acclaim. She was once again engaged by Bayreuth in 2000 for the new production of Der Ring der Nibelungen (Sinopoli/Flimm).
