Andreas Reize
Andreas Reize grew up in Solothurn and was a member of the choirboys of the St. Ursenkathedrale. He studied church music, organ, piano, harpsichord, choral and orchestral conducting at the conservatories in Bern, Zurich, Lucerne, Basel and Graz. The years of study with Johannes Prinz in Vienna and Graz, as well as the encounters with Nikolaus Harnoncourt during guest appearances at the Zurich Opera House and the Styriarte Graz, were seminal for his development. In the following years he founded the cantus firmus vocal ensemble and consort with period instruments. Since 2006 he is also music director of the "Oper Schloss Waldegg". The Monteverdi trilogy with "Orfeo" 2017, "Il ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria" 2019 found its conclusion with "L'incoronazione di Poppea" 2021 and is available on CD. In 2019 and 2021 he was engaged as guest conductor of the Theater Biel-Solothurn.
From 2007 to 2021, he conducted the Singknaben der St. Ursenkathedrale Solothurn, Switzerland's oldest boys' choir, and took over the direction of the Gabrielichor Bern as well as the Zurich Bach Choir.
Since September 2021, Andreas Reize has been the musical director of the Thomanerchor Leipzig as the 18th Thomaskantor after Johann Sebastian Bach. In the motets and services at St. Thomas Church, Andreas Reize performs a Bach cantata each week with the St. Thomas Choir and the Gewandhaus Orchestra. In doing so, he experiments with different line-ups and instrumentations based on historical models. With the Thomanerchor Leipzig, he regularly gives guest performances in music centers worldwide and at festivals in Germany and abroad.
Since March 2022, Andreas Reize has been a lecturer in choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig.
