Born in Munich and raised in Landshut and Berlin, the actress Martina Gedeck completed her training as an actress at the Universität der Künste Berlin. In 1985 she made her theater debut at the Frankfurt Theater am Turm in Janusz G􀄜owacki’s Aschenkinder as an inmate of a reform school for girls. Her debut was soon followed by engagements in Hamburg, Basel, and Berlin. Together with her career in the theater, Martina Gedeck began working as a film actress. In 1995 she was awarded the Bayerischen Fernsehpreis for her first lead role in the television film Die Hölleisengretel. Since then she has taken on numerous leading roles in film and television productions and has been honored for her work with all major film and television awards, including the Adolf Grimme Prize, the Deutscher Fernsehpreis, the Bayerischer Filmpreis, and the Goldenen Kamera. She was also presented a star on Berlin’s Boulevard der Stars. Martina Gedeck became internationally known with films such as Bella Martha, Night Train to Lisbon, the Oscar-award winning film The Lives of the Others and the Oscar-nominated film The Baader Meinhof Complex.

In addition to her work as a film and theater actress, Martina Gedeck has also taken part in radio play productions and numerous audio books. In 2017 she recorded the last part of Howard Griffith’s trilogy The Witch and the Maestro with the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt and also took on the role of the narrator in its world premiere.
