Ulrich Kern
The Stuttgart-born conductor Ulrich Kern studied at the University of Performing Arts in Stuttgart and Weimar. He received decisive impulses from Bernhard Haitink, Jorma Panula, and David Zinman. Through his support in the Conductors Forum of the German Music Council, he received engagements at the Staatstheater Mainz and the Kiel Opera. Since the 2011/2012 season, Ulrich Kern has been First Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director at the theater in Görlitz. He also appeared at the theatres in Bremen, Bielefeld, Osnabrück and Salvador/Brazil. At the Semperoper Dresden, he took over the production of Hans-Werner Henze‘s last opera Gisela in 2012.
In addition, he has received invitations from the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, the Brandenburgische Staatsorchester Frankfurt and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. He has conducted renowned orchestras in the United States, South Korea, Russia and Bulgaria and is a guest conductor at renowned festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Ruhrtriennale and the “Internationalen Tagen für Neue Musik” in Darmstadt. His extensive artistic activities are rounded off by radio recordings with the German broadcasters Saarländischer Rundfunk, Südwestrundfunk and Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk as well as the Echo Klassik award 2014 winning CD featuring French trombone concerts.
