André Khamasmie
Based in Leipzig, André Khamasmie is a frequent guest at concert halls at home and abroad. A much-in-demand tenor, he has performed alongside conductors such as Kurt Masur, Sir Roger Norrington, Jörg-Peter Weigle, Herbert Blomstedt, Fabio Luisi, Jun Märkl, Mario Venzago, Howard Arman, Prof. Hartmuth Haenchen, Georg Christoph Biller, and Reinhard Goebel. In addition to his performances of Johann Sebastian Bach’s and Georg Friedrich Handel’s oratorios, Khamasmie is best known for his moving interpretations of the Romantic repertoire and his elegant, bright voice. Recently, he has gained attention by performing exposed, challenging parts in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Gioachino Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Frank Martin’s In terra pax, and Zoltán Kodály’s Psalmus Hungaricus.
Khamasmie has not only performed in Italy, France, Great Britain, Austria, Belgium, Monaco, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, and across Germany, but has also participated in numerous CD, radio, and television productions.
Following his studies with Prof. Rudolf Riemer at Leipzig, Khamasmie gained further inspiration from Graham Johnson, Prof. Svein Bjørkøy, Prof. Ingrid Figur, Piotr Bednarski, and Andreas Talarowski. Moreover, he can be heard as a guest performer at many opera houses, including the Opernhaus Leipzig.
