Johannes Pietzonka
Tenor Johannes Pietzonka was born in Cottbus in 1989. He began his musical education with trumpet and piano lessons, and was awarded first prizes at the state and national levels of the Jugend musiziert competition in both categories. Having embarked upon a programme in music education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig in 2010, he received his first singing lessons with Prof. Andreas Sommerfeld. In 2013, he additionally began a degree course in opera singing with Prof. Berthold Schmid. University productions enabled Pietzonka to gain first experiences on the opera stage, for instances as First Priest and First Armoured Man in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Ottokar in Weber’s Freischütz, and Ménélas in Offenbach’s La belle Hélène. In the season of 2015/16, he performed the role of the apprentice in Wagner’s Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Oper Chemnitz; in 2016/17, he sang the part of Amico del Aladdino in Nino Rota’s Aladin und die Wunderlampe at the Oper Leipzig. Since 2016, Pietzonka has been studying towards a Master’s degree in opera singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. Here, he made appearances as Loge in Richard Wagner’s Rheingold and Herr Fallersleben in Hans Werner Henze’s Das Ende einer Welt in 2016/17.

He was contracted by the opera studio Helsinki in spring 2017 for performances as Lysander in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Peitzonka is prize winner of the Internationale Sächsische Sängerakademie Torgau.
