Since its establishment in 1969, the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet has appeared regularly in the most important concert halls in North America, Asia, and Europe. The Wiener Zeitung calls the quartet the “uncrowned kings of the saxophone” and the Welt says that “if there were an Olympic discipline for virtuoso brass playing, the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet would definitely receive a gold medal.”
The ensemble continues a tradition started in the 1930s by Sigurd Raschèr, the pioneer of the classical saxophone and founder of the quartet. The quartet has inspired many composers to dedicate works to them, including Lera Auerbach, Luciano Berio, Brett Dean, Franco Donatoni, Philip Glass, Sofia Gubaidulina, Maurizio Kagel, Fazil Say, and Iannis Xenakis. In addition to numerous performances and collaborations with the world’s leading orchestras, the quartet performs with various instrumental and vocal ensembles such as the Calmus Ensemble Leipzig, the BBC Singers, the choirs of the WDR and NDR, the RIAS Kammerchor, the Swedish Radio Choir, and the Estonia Chamber Choir.
