ensemble frauenkirche dresden
The ensemble frauenkirche dresden was founded by the church’s cantor Matthias Grünert in order to mark the dedication of the reconstructed Frauenkirche in 2005; since then, the musicians have developed into a truly multifaceted and innovative ensemble.
The acclaimed musicians of the Sächsische Staatskapelle and the Dresdner Philharmonie create a vibrant canvas of historically informed performance practice that is opened up through the use of modern instruments. The ensemble concentrates its work on repertoire by Bach, Zelenka, Homilius and other composers which have a connection with Dresden.
In addition to giving concerts, Sunday performances of sacred music, and liturgical performances of cantatas, the ensemble has received much praise on its numerous concert tours. With their annual participation in the projects ‘Kirchenklänge für junge Ohren’ (‘religious sounds for young ears’) and ‘Gesprächskonzerte für junge Leute’ (‘lecture recitals for young adults’), directed by Matthias Grünert and presented by Juri Tetzlaff, the musicians actively encourage music education for children and young adults.
