Laurent Wagner
Laurent Wagner studied in Lyon and Paris before joining Prof Karl Österreicher‘s renowned Kapellmeister class at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 1982. He graduated with distinction in conducting and coaching. After a few years as a répétiteur and conductor at the theatres in Heidelberg, Gelsenkirchen and Wuppertal and as maestro interno at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, he became Assistant Music Director at the Dortmund Theatre. In 1994, he was appointed Music Director at the Saarland State Theatre in Saarbrücken and then at the St. Gallen Theatre. His path then led him to RTE in Dublin as Principal Conductor, where he directed, among other things, the Irish premiere of Strauss’ Salome. In 2013 he became Music Director at the Altenburg Gera Theatre. Since 2013, he has been teaching conducting at the Conservatoire Rennes. Laurent Wagner has been awarded membership of the French National Order of Merit for his many years of service as an ambassador for French music.
