Roland Schulenburg
Born in Hamburg in 1969, Roland Schulenburg attended the Detmold University of Music in 1990 to study bassoon. He gained his first orchestral experience in 1992/93 as an intern in the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra and from 1993 to 1995 as a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. As a prizewinner at the German University Competition in 1994, he was initially appointed principal bassoonist with the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra between 1995 and 1996 before taking up his post as principal bassoonist with the Gera Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he still holds today. Roland Schulenburg is also a member of the Ensemble diX, founded in Gera, with which he performs both in the region and throughout Germany, as well as internationally. Concert tours with the ensemble have already taken him to Arnhem, Dublin, Florence, London, and New York.
