The Austrian tenor Philipp Kapeller is a member of the Hanover State Opera, where he sings roles including Monostatos, and Prince Andreas Stephan in Paul Abraham’s operetta Märchen im Grand Hotel. Prior to this, he was an ensemble member of the Oldenburgische Staatstheater, where he played roles such as Belmonte in The Abduction from the Seraglio, Ramiro in La Cenerentola, Tito Vespasiano in La clemenza di Tito, Tonio in La fille du régiment and Camille de Rosillon in The Merry Widow. He is a regular guest at other opera houses, including the Komische Oper Berlin, the Theater Bremen and the Chemnitz Opera, and at festivals such as the Seefestspiele Mörbisch. In his native Tyrol, Philipp Kapeller had his first vocal training in a children’s choir, also making his first concert appearances as a boy soloist. In addition, he received piano lessons and learned the trombone. After completing a foundation programme at the Tyrolean State Conservatory, the young tenor studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Karlheinz Hanser and Charles Spencer-Smith.
